Abdominal Cerclage

Who is in need of an Abdominal Cerclage?
An abdominal cerclage is a suture used to close and strengthen the cervix during pregnancy, in an effort to prevent a miscarriage. This is needed for women who have an incompetent or weakened cervix. As the baby grows, because of the shortened or weakened cervix, it may not be able to stay closed. Therefore, Dr. Jeyalingam will place a cerclage around the cervix.
What is an Abdominal Cerclage?
Dr. Jeyalingam will perform a laparoscopy, a minimally invasive approach to place a cerclage, which is a band of synthetic material around your cervix. The cerclage will help reinforce the cervix, keeping it closed, and thus allowing for a healthy pregnancy.
